In the Midwest region of the United States, many fitness businesses and bike shops have come and gone over the years.  The Cyclery and Fitness Center was established in 1979 with the goal of providing the Saint Louis Metro East area (Southwestern Illinois) with an outstanding cycling experience to complement a fitness lifestyle.  Our business now spans over 5 decades under the continuous leadership of our original founder and owner.

Since we first opened our doors in the city of Edwardsville, we have continued to grow with the help of a well qualified and friendly staff, an excellent customer base, and a wild enthusiasm for cycling.  We have an amazing selection of bikes, ranging from road bikes to old school cruisers, fitness equipment, and a fully stocked running store with both shoes and apparel.

We pride ourselves on being open almost every day of the year, with trained bicycle and fitness mechanics/technicians on staff and available.  We have 4 master mechanics with over 10 years of experience each on both fitness equipment and bicycles.

When our customers need something, we usually have it in stock and on the shelf.  We also place special orders for customers with our dealer network of over 100 manufacturers.  Our goal is to provide the best service, at the best price, on the best products available.  We can be contacted by email at: info@thecyclerys.com

Walk, Run or Ride

Edwardsville's The Cyclery offers bikes and beyond

Posted: Monday, May 6, 2013 @ The Telegraph

EDWARDSVILLE - With more than 8000 square feet of showroom space, one easily can spend an entire afternoon wheeling around The Cyclery & Fitness Center. "We have been consistent since 1979," said Allan the General Manager. "We have seen a lot of stores come and go, but we are still here. We can attribute that to the owner; he is totally customer-oriented and he has passed that trait along to his team." The fitness store is finishing up several months of extensive renovations to its space, offering customers more accessibility and ensuring a pleasant shopping experience. "With this new remodel, the space is more open and shows the product much better, said Allan. "We were going to do this last year, but we were so busy we just could not get to it. After 7 years without any real change, it was time for an update." The remodel, expected to be complete within a few weeks, included rearranging the clothing area, pulling up carpeting, installing hardwood flooring, new facade work on walls, and a new half-wall that separates the fitness equipment showroom area. "Keeping up with the times is very important," said Scott the running manager. You have to stay relevant and up to date, and it is much more bright and pleasant here now. It is easier to see the distinct areas of the shop and the different departments." Opened in 1979 by Steve the owner, The Cyclery moved into its current location 7 1/2 years ago. It previously was located at 244 South Buchanan Street. The new location allows the space to keep an extensive inventory in stock, including 1200 to 1400 bikes and 1800 pairs of running shoes. All major lines can be found at the Edwardsville store, including bikes by Giant, Trek, Cannondale, Pinarello, Electra, Schwinn, GT, Haro, SE, Easy Racer, Sun, Day 6, Eastern, Redline, Mongoose and more. Running shoes and apparel from Asics, Brooks, Mizuno, New Balance, Nike, Pearl Izumi, Saucony, FuelBelt, and Camelbak also are available. But before purchasing the equipment, the first step is finding just which bike, shoe or clothing is right for you. "Running is unlike any other activity," Scott said. "You must have the right shoe to avoid potential injury. We have many years of experience, and a lot of physical therapists and podiatrists refer their patients to us because they know we will be able to fit them with the right shoe. "We know a lot of bike shops and running stores have computer analysis and video machines. We do not need that. We have decades of experience, and someone with a trained eye will always trump the computer. You have to take into consideration things like arm and leg length, the way a person walks, things like that. We can see what a computer cannot." Finding the right bike is just as important. "We do not know a little about everything; we know a lot about our specific thing," Allan said. "These bikes are equipped for long distances, so you are going to be spending a lot of time on them. You need the right one. A shoe is not just a shoe, and a bike is not just a bike. They need to be the right fit for you." The trained staff and certified repair technicians on hand provide decades of combined experience. "It is essential in this business to have the expertise to be able to assemble and repair bikes correctly. We have master mechanics here. Also, the right accessories for cycling and running can be crucial to preventing injuries. You have to know what the cyclist or runner needs." Although the inventory and fitness center appearance project "high-end," Allan said the prices are not, with competitive pricing on accessories and affordable bicycles; most start at $300, and many are under $500. The Cyclery offers free assembly, lifetime adjustments, 10 percent off accessory purchases for one year, financing, repair classes and more. In addition, it sponsors area races and leads a weekly run in conjunction with the Metro Milers. The fitness equipment department also offers free assembly and free delivery and removal of old equipment. The Cyclery and Fitness Center is open 9am until 8pm Monday through Friday, 9am until 5pm on Saturday, and 10am until 5pm on Sunday. Weekly Group Rides

Join us and other bike clubs on one of these great rides. Whether you are new to cycling or an old pro, there is a ride just right for you. Rides require, at a minimum, an appropriate bike in good working order, water, and a helmet. We suggest a spare tube, energy food, maybe a little cash in case we stop, and your biggest smile! Many rides are held subject to the weather. It is a good idea to confirm date, time and any specific requirements, too. We will see you out there and have fun!
